Supporting First Responders
Fire ghters face signi cantly increased cancer risks due to regular exposure to hazardous chemicals in the line of duty. As part of NRMC’s commitment to preventive care and community health, the NRMC Foundation provided free cancer screenings to more than 40 re ghters from across the region as an ongoing initiative to support the health and wellbeing of our rst responders.
The screenings were held at NRMC Multispecialty Clinic and Dr. Keith Ashby led the medical team conducting the screenings. A representative from Galleri, a company specializing in early cancer detection, was also on-site to provide support and resources.
The success of the event was made possible through the coordinated e orts of an NRMC team of over 20 members and the Thornton family. Fire ghters from both city and parish departments participated, and the initiative has been expanded to include departments from Winn Parish and Sabine Parish in the future.
