              Welcome to Turkey
Turkey is in the northern hemisphere and covers parts of Asia and Europe. It is surrounded by the
Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea and the Aegean Sea, with the Bosphorus Bridge in Istanbul
interconnecting the continents of Europe and Asia.
The population of Turkey is over 70 million and there are 81 cities. The most crowded cities are
Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa, Adana and Antalya, with Ankara being the capital city. Turkey has one
of the world's fastest developing economies and has the one of the youngest populations in
           Europe.
Twenty six different civilizations were founded in Anatolia and Istanbul served as the capital
city for some of the greatest civilizations in history. This significantly contributes to Turkey's
rich heritage, which offers many different historical monuments and artifacts.
Turkey is located in a temperate zone. The coastal areas have hot, dry summers and
mild, wet winters. However, conditions can be much harsher in the interior. The interior of
Turkey has a continental climate with sharply contrasting seasons. This means that if
you travel across Turkey you can experience all the different seasons and could go
swimming in the sea one day and snow boarding the next. There is time difference
of 76 minutes between the east and the west of Turkey.
