SAFE & APPROPRIATE
BOUNDARIES
KEY MESSAGES:
- A boundary is a line that others cannot cross unless you
say it’s okay.
- Your boundaries might be different from another person’s
boundaries.
- You need to respect other people’s boundaries and ask
before touching another person.
- You can say no to any touch or behavior that makes you
feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
This is an OPTIONAL LESSON! Talk to your coach, parent,
or teammate if you want to know more about this topic.
We have many different types of relationships in our lives.
We use different types of touch with the different people
in our lives. Not all people receive the same type of touch.
We have warning signals to our body that let us know when some-
thing doesn’t feel comfortable or something is wrong. Examples of
signals in our body include:
• Feeling uncomfortable in the stomach
• Body is shaking
• Breathing is fast
• Heart or chest hurts
• Body is sweaty
Talk to someone you trust if there is a person who makes you feel
uncomfortable. You can say no if you don’t want someone to touch
you or if someone makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
