SHOOT TYPE: INTERIOR / EXTERIOR PROGRESSION ®
The owner of an environmental science campus asked the general contractor to prove
that the backing was installed before the installation of laboratory cabinets. Rather than
perform destructive verification in a number of labs to prove the backing was installed
correctly, the general contractor showed the owner interior progression images of the
properly-installed backing in each lab.
A building inspector later noted that the salt-water atmosphere appeared to have
caused some rust to form on an exposed steel staircase. The rust was removed and the
staircase painted and sealed shortly after the inspection. When the inspector returned and
questioned the removal, the general contractor simply pulled up the exterior progression
images to validate the rust removal.
The general contractor estimates a savings of $40,000 by avoiding the destructive
verification, rework, and schedule delays that would have otherwise been necessary.
