 Dear Tony,
Heartfelt congratulations on the big and special occasion!!
I hope you are coping well through this very strange and troubling times, are staying active and also have the opportunity to spend time with the family!
I have many good memories from working with you, and you have also been instrumental in ensuring my career progression. From the first time we met on a cold and wet winter day in Oslo to discuss (and to a degree disagree) on the most appropriate set up of the INTOSAI-Donor Cooperation structures, to the historic signing of the MOU and successful meetings taking us around the world and a wonderful party in London where your tenure as the Chair of the Cooperation came to an end. Throughout these years I was struck by your enthusiasm and engagement and of course your incredible “way with words”. Heading the Secretariat was my first management position, and I had no idea what I was walking into. Throughout the journey you together with the late Mr. Kosmo served as excellent role models for me. You were demanding, yet also someone who could listen and show support. I vividly remember the proud moment when you held a presentation for the Office of the Auditor General of Norway and you ended by saying in front of my Auditor General that I deserved an Oscar award for my work for SAIs.
Tony, without you there would not have been an INTOSAI-Donor Cooperation, a partnership that still continues to flourish and where we only a fortnight ago had our 13th annual meeting. Establishing this partnership has brought tremendous value to the INTOSAI and Donor communities and entails that we today speak together with trust and seek to solve common challenges such as SAI independence and professionalization of SAIs with one coherent voice.
Wishing you all the best for the big occasion and do keep in touch!!
All the best Einar
