Happy Birthday, Tony!
We were delighted to be invited to share our thoughts on your big day. When we think of you, we immediately start remem- bering your stories. Without doubt, you are a fabulous story- teller. Among your many entertaining tales, our favorite is your rendition of travels in a rental car around the LA free- ways in your younger days.
We always looked forward to international trips when we knew you (and Marian) would be there too. We have fond memories of wonderful times in Jaipur, Johannesburg, and Marrakesh, to name a few. With all your globe-trotting, we thought you might have problems settling down. Apparently not! We un- derstand that as part of Ireland’s landed gentry, you now have evolved into a very creative gardener. Who knew?
We were very happy to be included in several of your many re- tirement parties (our personal favorite was the one held in a London pub with Osama as the master of ceremonies); and we recall the genuine fond regard with which you were held by the many friends and colleagues you encountered over the years.
We wish you a very happy birthday at Journey’s End, amidst your beautiful family. You and Marian must be so proud of your children and grandchildren. Among your many achievements, they are without doubt your most rewarding.
We are looking forward to seeing you and Marian again when the world returns to normal.
