06 Learning Without Borders Week September 2022 Secondary Learning Without Borders Week
The planning for Learning Without Borders Week starts very early in the school year in order to allow staff to put forward ideas and time for the students and parents to make their choices. Although most of the activities and trips were based in the Czech Republic, there was one trip abroad that had been in the planning for two years and it finally went ahead.
The trip to Barcelona was a great success with students experiencing the culture, cui- sine and hot weather in the beautiful capital of Catalonia. Visits to La Sagrada Familia, the Gothic centre, the famous Park Guell as well as the obligatory walks around the city and the beach have left a great impression on our students.
Meanwhile in Prague, the rest of the students and staff were busy getting started on their own activities and/or local trips. Here are a few of the highlights of the week:
▨ Truthful Teen Tourism - students visit tourist sites and write reviews, sounds fun, doesn't it? Boat trips on the Vltava, plenty of walking to visit the main attractions, lots of very well written reviews and a final day treat at the cinema, all done with enthusi- asm by our group.
▨ The Sports Festival offered the stu- dents a wide range of activities to get stuck into and they did it! There were a lot of tired muscles at the end of the week, but the Jumpark, Rope Centre, beach volleyball, sailing, bouldering and climbing were fantastic fun, just look at the photos.
▨ How does wild camping for a couple of nights with just the bare necessities in your backpack sound? Pretty wild to begin with, I have to say, but Mrs McGuiness and her team did such
a fantastic job organising this trip, that I nearly joined them. The heavy rain on the first night put a dent in the team’s ambitions so they had to return to Prague, but they had a great time nevertheless. I look forward to next year’s adventure!
▨ Want to challenge your thinking skills, solve puzzles, mysteries and play fun games? A small group of students joined Mrs Zajac and her team on this year’s Mission Impossible activity and did just that. MindMaze escape rooms and the one and only TEP factor were on the menu this year, but what I will remember is the sight of the students and teachers completely engrossed in playing board games together on the second day.
▨ When it comes to artistic expres-
sion, you can trust Ms Garner to plan a fantastic activity. This year’s Islamic Geometric patterns workshop was
a fantastic opportunity for students to learn or develop skills they have never used before. They produced beautiful patterns, printed them on paper and fabric, and finished with painting
a canvas board. What a memorable experience!
▨ The Czech Department organised
a trip to Kutná Hora to help the students explore this wonderful Czech town, full of history and fun. Trips to St Barbara Cathedral, The Italian Court were very informative,
