    Giants and Dreams
The Y2R display depicts the Dream Tree from Roald Dahl’s story of the BFG. During this topic, we read and discussed the
Big Friendly Giant and compared and contrasted him to other giants from dif- ferent fairy tales. We started the topic by discussing dreams and the children made their own dream catchers, which can be seen in the branches of the Dream Tree. We then looked at what we already know and What we would like to find out about Giants and Dreams and wrote these onto leaves, which have formed a blanket at the bottom of the tree.
The children then went on to write about their very own giants that could be lurk- ing at the top of a beanstalk. Would they be big and friendly or big and scary.
Mrs Ruth
Year 3S analysed a text by author Oliver Jeffers and explored what made it so great to read. Each day, we looked at just a few sentences from the book and identified
the features of each sentence. We brain- stormed a wider range of vocabulary options, similes, repetition and alliteration, and then wrote our own version of ‘The In- credible Book-Eating Boy’. Our class display is Sentence Stacking – choosing writing examples from different children each day to build a shared version of the story.
Mr Stuart
The front and back halves of the RMS Titanic ship were created and each one was used as a main topic display in the two Year 5 classes. Attention was paid
to small details, for example the funnels were tilted as on the original ship and the reason behind that was explained to chil- dren. Pictures from the actual ship were stapled onto the display to provide some real evidence about the tragedy. 3D mod- els of rooms were made by the children and also displayed underneath. Around the display there are flash cards with interesting facts about the ship and its destiny. A world globe was placed nearby, which allowed us to track the ship's route as we were learning about it.
