Clinical appearance of IASD (Incontinence Associated Skin Damage)
• Bright red to subtle red in persons with darker skin tones
• Irritated skin blancheable erythema
• Diffuse edges or superficial spots
• No necrotic tissue
• Minimal to no exudate
• Superficial in depth
Clinical indicators
• Incontinence
• Burning, itchy, painful skin in the perianal region
Prevention and IASD treatment options

• If faecally incontinent, change pad immediately
• Change continence pad as indicated
• If break in skin, address the needs of
the wound
