P. 33

Community rangering is not a new tactic or pilot program, it is an essential part of the ranger
work group; therefore, it should be incorporated into as many aspects of this work group as
possible. Rangers’ roles and how they can help other work groups and vice versa should be
clear within the department, and staff should be updated on which community ranger is
working in each community. Staff should also consider community rangers’ desirable traits
                     when hiring new rangers.

                     Ranger Patrol Interpretation
Appropriate natural and cultural history, scenic, and recreation information should be part of
every message to visitors during these contacts. To facilitate this, rangers on patrol are
expected to learn about local animal and plant species and their life cycles so rangers may be
                     recognized as knowledgeable OSMP stewards.
