At Raphidim, the Amalecites atta ed the Israelites Tbt and tried to rob them of their possessions. Moses ap- pointed Josue to pick out men to form an army to ght against them. When the battle was about to begin, Moses took the rod of God in his hand, and went up
into the mountain with Aaron and Hur, another of the
chief men, to pray for victory. Moses held the rod up
over his head while he prayed. As long as he held up
the rod, the Israelites were successful; the moment he lowered it, the Israelites gave way. When Moses grew weary, Aaron and Hur stood on either side of him, and
