The whole Tribe of Levi, because of its delity to God at the time of the worship of the Golden Calf, was assigned to help the priests. God pro­ vided a ceremony to initiate them into their n ew position. They
were sprinkled wit h
water to purify them,
and their hair was
shaved from their
heads. They were led
into the Court of the
Tabernacle, where the
people passed by them, placing their hands on the head of every one of them. This was a si that the nation was transferring to the Levites the duty of serving God in acts of public worship. Two oxen were then brought before the Levites. Upon the heads of these oxen every Levite placed his hands. The oxen were then sacri ced. Onewas o ered as a sacri ce for sin;
the other as aholocaust, in adoration.

There were two kinds of sacri ces prescribed by the Kinds Law of Moses: the unbloody, in which the fruits of the sacri c earth, or our, dried corn, and frankincense, together
