2. THE REPORT OF THE ScouTs AROUSES REBELLION The Here God commanded Moses to choose twelve men,
of one from each tribe, and to send them as scouts into

the Land of Chanaan. Moses selected the twelve, and among them were Caleb and Josue. He said to them, '' Go up by the south side and when you come to the mountain, view the land and see what sort it is; and the people, whether they be strong or weak, few in number or many; and the land itself, whether it be good or bad; what manner of cities there are, walled
or without walls; the ground, whether it is rich or barren, woody or without trees. Be of good courage, and bring us the fruits of the land."
The scouts traveled about all the Land of Chanaan for forty days. At Hebron they found a great cluster
