half and to give half of it to each woman. But when the true mother heard this command, she cried out, "Give her the child alive and do not kill it." But the other woman said, "Let the child be neither mine nor thine, but divide it."
Solomon knew at once to whom the child belonged and he said, "Give the living child to this woman and let it not be ki ed, for she is the mother.'' And the child was restored to the woman who had pleaded for its life.
