Ezechiel prophesied in parables, which are very di cult to understand. It is from the prophecy of Ezechiel that we get the symbols of the four EvangelĀ ists-St. John represented as an eagle, St. Matthew as aman,St.MarkasalionandSt.Lukeasanox. Itwas in a vision that Ezechiel saw these gures. He beheld
a great whirlwind and a great cloud surrounded by re. In the midst of it he saw the likeness of four living creatures.
'' And as for the likeness of their faces, there was the face of a man and the face of a lion on the right side of all the four, and the face of an ox on the left side of all the four, and the face of an eagle over all the four."

We have seen how Daniel lived in Babylon during the captivity, how he received from God the gift of wisdom, which made him a favorite with the king, who treated him as though he were a prince, and how even after the fall of Babylon, when the Medes and Persians came into power, Daniel remained in authority.
Daniel told the people constantly that in spite of the fact that they were captives in the hands of a mighty nation, they should not lose hope. God had not forgotten His promises and was watching over them. He even foretold to the day, the time of their deliverĀ ance and the coming of the Savior.
