JUDAS MACHABEUS ENTERING J USALEM AF R HIS VICT Y
At this time Judas Machabeus thought of making an alliance with Rome. Rome had become a very power­ ful nation and was opposed to the Greeks and Syrians. He sent ambassadors to Rome, where they were re­ ceived very graciouslyo In the agreement that was made between Rome and Judas, the Jews promised to help the Romans in war, and the Romans promised to protect the Jews. As a result of this alliance, the Romans sent word to Demetrius, the Syrian, warning him not to molest the Jews any longer or he would have the Roman legions to contend with.
While the ambassadors were still in Rome, a third army marched from Syria against Judas. He was
