338 CHRIST PREPARES TO REDEEM THE WO D
A PRESENT-DAY VIEW OF NAZARETH
asking them questions. All that heard Him were astonished at His wisdom and His answers.
Mary and Joseph were surprised when they saw Jesus in the midst of all these learned men. Going up to Him, Mary said, "Son, why hast Thou done so to us! Behold, Thy father and I have sought Thee, sorrowing." But Jesus said to her, "How is it that you sought Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business!''
Then Jesus, Mary, and Joseph left Jerusalem and started on their journey to Nazareth. Nazareth was a town of about  fteen thousand people, located in the southern part of Galilee. From the surrounding hills
could be seen the Plain of Esdrelon, and in the distance the Mediterranean Sea and Mount Carmel. To the north were the snowcapped peaks of Lebanon and Hermon, on the east Mount Thabor, the low bed of the Jordan and the table-land of Ga]aad.
