10 GOD PROMISES MAN A REDEEMER
Good and Evil thou shalt not eat, for on the day that thou shalt eat of it, thou shalt die the death.''
Then God brought to Adam all the beasts of the earth and the fowls of the air to have him give them a name. And Adam called all the beasts by their names, and all the fowls of the air and all the cattle of the  eld. But of all the animals of the earth, not one was worthy to be a companion to Adam. He needed some­ one like himself. Therefore, God said, "It is not good for man to be alone; let Us make him a helpmeet like unto himself."
Then God cast a deep sleep upon Adam, and while he w  fast asleep, He took one of his ribs and made of it a woman. When Adam awoke, God brought her to him. Adam said, ''This is bone of my bones and
 esh of my  esh. Therefore, a man shall leave father and mother and shall cleave to his wife, and they shall be two in one  esh." Adam called the woman Eve, which means Mother of All the Living.
When God created Adam and Eve, He did some­ thing very wonderful · to their souls. He gave them divine gifts of mind and heart which made them like unto Him. He clothed their souls with sanctifying grace, and they became holy and pleasing in His sight and received the right to be happy with Him for al1 eternity.
Adam and Eve were very happy together in Para­ dise. Everything around them was beautif . There was plenty of food of every kind. The climate was neither too hot nor too cold. A beautiful river  owed through the midst of the garden, and Adam and Eve
