382 CHRIST'S TEACHINGS, MIRA ES AND CHURCH
'' Arise, take up thy bed and walk.'' Immediately the man was cured. He took up his bed and walked away. As he was going along, some of the Pharisees met him and said,' 'Dost thou not know that this is the Sab
bath Day, and that it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed 1'' The man said to them, ''He that made me whole said to me, 'Take up thy bed and walk.' '' They asked him, ''Who is that man who said to thee, 'Take up thy bed and walk?' '' But the man did not know who it was, and Jesus had disappeared in the crowd.
Some time afterwards, Jesus saw the man in the Temple and said to him, ''Behold, thou art made whole. Sin no more, lest some worse thing happen to thee.''
The man went his way and told the Pharisees that it was Jesus Who had made him ole. Thereupon, they persecuted Jesus because He did these things on the Sabbath Day. Jesus said to them, "My Father worketh until now, and I work.'' Hearing this, the Pharisees only hated Jesus the more and sought for a chance to have Him put to death, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but He also said that God was His
