III. THE GREAT FLOOD
1. GoD ORDERS NoE TO BurLD AN ARK
Adam and Eve had many children, g ndchildren, B and great-grandchildren, and soon the human family became very large. Many of the descendants of Adam
and Eve were disobedient, sel sh, and wicked. The good people married the wicked people, and they too
became sinful. ยท They no longer served God and soon forgot Him.
Still, there were a few who believed in God and tried Noe to serve Him. Among these was a good and holy man called Noe. God sent him three sons, Sem, Cham, and Japheth, who grew up to be good men like their father. They were obedient, and loved and served God.
When God saw how wicked the people had become, T He said to Noe, "I will send a ood to destroy them and the earth." Because Noe and his family were faithful and pleasing to God, He determined to spare them. He told Noe to make a large ark, or houseboat, which should be four hundred and fty feet long, seventy- ve feet wide, and forty- ve feet high. A bo
of such dimensions would be as long as two city blocks,
as wide as four houses, and as high as a ve-story building. The ark had three stories, and each story had
many rooms. There was a door and a window to let in air and light. When everything was nished, the ark 19
