not deceived. He said, "Why do you tempt Me, ye hypocrites? Show Me the coin of the tribute.'' They o ered Him a penny. Jesus said, "Whose image and inscription is this?'' They said to Him, '1 Caesar's.'' Then He said to them, "Render, therefore, to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God, the things that are God's.''
Filled with wonder at this answer, they left Him and went their way.
That same day Jesus said to some Pharisees who were gathered around Him, " at think you of Christ; whose son is he?" They say to Him, "Da yid's." He said to them, "How, then, doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, 'The Lord said to my Lord: Sit on my right hand, until I make thy enemies thy footstool'? If David then call Him Lord, how is He his son?'' But no one was able to answer Him, nor did anyone from that day forth dare to question Him.
So throughout the day He taught in the Temple. But in the evening, going out, He spent the night on the Mount ·of Olives. The next day the chief priests and the leaders of the people were gathered in the court of the high priest, Caiphas.
