were the descendants of Cham, and are also known as
the Hethites, or Hittites. They were a hardy race of mountaineers and were very warlike. In the records
of the Egyptians, they are described as men with large
noses and receding foreheads and chins, having clean shaven faces and wearing pigtails.
Their empire consisted of a number of small states, each with its own head and its own capital. But they would unite with one another for the purpose of wag ing war. We have seen how they conquered the Babylonians on their east, but they were never able to conquer the Egyptians on their west. Their power
