I. ABRAHAM, THE FATHER OF THE CHOSEN PEOPLE

Many, many years after the human race had been A 's scattered from Babel, there lived in Ur, a city of r Chaldea, a herdsman named Thare. Thare had three
sons, Abram, Aran, and Nachor. Aran had a son named Lot, who was left in Thare's care when his father died. Abram's wife was named Sarai.
Thare moved with his family from Ur to Haran. After Thare's death, God told Abram to leave his native land and go into the land which He would point out. He promised to make Abram the father of a great nation, and told him that in him all the kindred of th earth should be blessed. In obedience to God's command, Abram took Sarai, Lot, and all their servĀ ants and ocks, and journeyed southwest toward the Land of Chanaan.
Abram lived the life of a nomad chief. His dress : s was much like that of the modern Bedouin. His home l was a tent with a peaked roof, and was divided by a partition of skins into a living room and a sleeping room. His servants, several hundred herdsmen with
