their wives and children, lived in similar tents near to their master's. Their food consisted of butter, milk, herbs, bread, the meat of their ocks, and the fruits of the trees.
In his wanderings Abram came to a city in Chanaan called Sichem. Here·God said to Abram, ''To thy children I will give this nd." Abram built an altar to God at Sichem. Next he pitched his tent at Bethel, where he also built an altar.
Some time after this, there came a great £amino in the Land of Chanaan and, in order to escape it, Abram took his family and went into Egypt. When the famine was over, he returned and dwelt near Bethel.
