disobedience was punished immediately. She was turned into a statue of salt.

Hearing this, Abr am became very sad, and he did not know what to do. For, after all, Ismael was his son and he loved him.
God told him to heed what Sara said and not to worry about Ismael and Agar. He said, ''I will make the son also of the bondwoman the father of a great nation, because he   thy son."
So Abraham rose up in the morning and, taking bre d  d a bottle of water, he put it upon the shoul­ der of Agar and sent her and her boy away. Heart­ broken, she went forth and wandered in the wilderness for d s. At last, the water in the bottle was all gone. She saw Ismael becoming weaker and weaker, and she was sure that he was dying of thirst and weariness. Tenderly she laid him down under a tree. ''I will not see my boy die,'' she said and, going a short distance away, she sat down on the ground and wept.
