shall be found there„'' God answered, ''I will not do it if I nd thirty there.''
Still Abraham persevered in his prayer. "Seeing I have begun," he said, "I will speak to my Lord. What if twenty be found theref'' God said, ''I will not destroy it for the sake of twenty.''
"I beseech Thee," said Abraham, "be not angry, Lord, if I speak yet once more. What if ten should be found there 1" And He said, "I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.'' Then the Lord departed, and Abraham returned home.
But there were not even ten just men in the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha.
That same evening, two of the strangers came to Lot's Sodom and saw Lot sitting at the gate of the city. Lot, not knowing they were angels, invited them to come
with him and be his guests. He made a feast for them, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate. While they were eating, a crowd of wicked men of
the city came to the house to do harm to Lot's guests. But the angels struck them blind.
Then the angels said to Lot, ''If thou hast anyone that is dear to thee, son-in-law, or sons, or daughters, take them out of this city. For the Lord hath sent us to destroy this place.''
Lot had two daughters whom he had promised in marriage to two young men of the city. Going to these young men, he said, ''Arise, get you out of this place, because the Lord will destroy this city." But they thought he was speaking in jest, and refused to go.
