It happened that some merchants, who were on their way to Egypt, passed through the elds. The broth­ ers stopped them, o ered to sell Joseph to them, and asked them how much they were willing to pay. The merchants o ered them twenty pieces of silver. This sum satis ed the brothers, and Joseph was led away to Egypt.
vVhile this was going on, Ruben was far away in another part of the eld. When he learned what had happened, he was much troubled. He knew that his father would place all the blame for the e-vil deed on him.
