In order to save Ruben from Jacob's anger, the brothers then planned to deceive their father. They dipped Joseph's brightly colored coat into the blood of a kid and, sending it to their father, told him that they had found it. Jacob believed that Joseph had been killed by a wild beast. He was  lled with grief, and could not be comforted by his other sons.
 Vhen the merchants brought Joseph to Egypt, they
sold him to the chief captain of Pharao's army. The s ss
captain's name was Putiphar. It was not long before Putiphar saw that Joseph was the best of his servants, and he placed him in charge of his house. God  essed Joseph and Putiphar. Under Joseph's management, Putiphar's fortune grew and he became wealthier day by day.
Putiphar's wife was a wicked woman. Because Jo­ seph would not do wrong to please her, she falsely accused him of sin to her husband. Putiphar was angry. He did not try to  nd out the truth, but be­ lieved the word of his wife, and cast Joseph into prison.
The keeper of the prison was moved by God to look with favor on Joseph, and he placed him in charge of the rest of the prisoners.
After some time Pharao's butler and baker were cast into the prison where Joseph was in charge. One day, Joseph saw that they were troubled. He asked them why they were sad. "We have dreamed a dream," they answered, "and there is no one to ex­ plain it to us." Joseph said to them, "Does not the
