Chavez wants to find the area of a rectangular throw rug. The rug has a side length of 8 + √5 feet and a width of 2 + √2 feet. What is the area of the rug?
SOLUTION
A = lw
= ( 8 + √ 5 ) ( 2 + √ 2 )
= 16 + 8√2 + 2√5 + √1 0
The area of the rug is (16 + 8 √2 + 2 √5 + √1 0 ) square feet.
