Greenwich is a hidden gem
People who live here count themselves as being very fortunate. It has a lovely village atmosphere with an excellent primary school, seven parks, library and community hall, tennis club, two sailing clubs, Tai Chi at Manns Point, walking groups and an art society. According to police it is one of the safest places to live in Sydney.
It is a popular suburb for doctors and specialists who need to be 15 minutes from Royal North Shore Hospital, downsizers who have discovered Greenwich because of its close proximity to the CBD, professional couples who favour the central location and proximity to Crows Nest, Lane Cove, Chatswood, local clubs, schools, CBD, local shopping and dining areas and Investors looking for stable long-term investment returns. People frequently move within Greenwich upgrading to the waterfront and properties with views. Several Harbourline sales in the past year were well over the $4 million and Greenwich prices can go as high as $8 million.
The Harbourline forecast is for property price to remain steady after three years of steady price growth. Prices for 3 bedroom homes commence at $1.5 million, 4 bedroom homes at $2.0 million and 2 bedroom apartments start at about $700,000.
History
The suburb's name is derived from its namesake Greenwich, by the banks of the Thames in London. Other nearby suburbs were also named after Thames localities of Putney, Woolwich and Henley.
occupying a peninsula on the northern side of Sydney Harbour, at the opening of the Lane
Cove River. The suburb features harbour views, pockets of bushland, shops, restaurants and cafes, a harbour swimming
pool with shark net, several parks and many interesting walks and a picturesque ferry service to the City.
Greenwich ferry wharf and Bay Street wharf provide access to the inner harbour ferry services, with services to Circular
Quay. A bus service from Greenwich Point runs to McMahons Point, Lane Cove and St Leonards. The closest train
stations are at St Leonards and Wollstonecraft.
The Greenwich Village Games are held every four years and feature numerous sports and competitions held mainly at
Gore Creek Oval and Lane Cove Aquatic Centre. Greenwich Sports Club, which was founded in 1936, organises soccer
for men, women and children and netball for girls.
