18th Hole, Punta Espada Golf Club
Captured from a Robinson44 Helicopter with a Hasselblad H3D-50
“There are some courses that are best photographed from the air in order to capture the true essence of the course and its surroundings. The Jack Nicklaus designed Punta Espada Golf Club in the Dominican Republic is one of those places. We took off at sunrise in a Robinson44 helicopter to begin shooting. A great pilot understands a photographer’s needs and can masterfully position and hover the craft where needed. For this particular photograph I had the pilot hover the helicopter over the water just behind the 18th green so I could get an array of shots. I specifically wanted to capture a photo with the waves crashing over the rocks. And I almost forgot to mention, since you can’t shoot through glass, it’s essential that you remove the helicopter’s doors before you fly.” —Evan Schiller
