How Does the Program Work?
Of course, a successful staff ride begins with a plan and the
Lockhart Group planning team would visit with the course point
of contact to discuss and agree the full range of requirements.
Usually our clients take responsibility for inbound and outbound
travel to the nearest airport. Depending upon client
requirements we take responsibility for accommodation and
coach travel, permits and fees. Our usual requirement is to
provide an academic team of two, who will be the same staff as
planned the staff ride with the Institution’s point of contact. We
prefer to pair a military academic with operational experience of
conflict with a war studies academic. This combination produces
a strong dynamic for understanding the mechanics and
environment of a military campaign with the wider policy,
insights into senior command and the strategic backdrop.
Relevant collateral is issued, and the program begins with a short
briefing and an introductory over view presentation of the key
aspects of the campaign to be studied.
Our experience has shown that at least one evening activity such
as an after-dinner talk on a related aspect of the campaign adds
significant value to the student experience and is always
appreciated.
