THE POWER OF GENEROSITY
a a a sales person or use a a a website there is a person behind every one of those exchanges We all remember the customer service person who went out of his or her way to help us or the waiter that spent a a a bit of extra time talking to us Are you
more likely to do business with someone who made you
feel good about yourself? The answer is probably yes Each of those interactions shows a generosity of spirit that powers a a a positive brand reputation “Generosity of spirit is a a a a leadership style that promotes a a a a work environment where it’s safe to expriment ” Operating with a a generosity of spirit will improve your happiness at work Research has shown that a a a positive attitude is a a a a large determinant in in both pay and promotion The ability to generate a a a a following collaborate with others
and drive a a positive culture are all positive qualities that make
a a a person more likely to join leadership positions So how do you
you
develop your own generosity of spirit? I don’t have the perfect formula but here are some behaviors you
could consider 1 People are more important than tasks If someone comes to you
with a problem talk with them and don’t let your hurried existence bleed into the interaction If you
can block out the distractions and simply focus on on the person 2 others
feel about themselves: We spend too much time focused on what people think of us Instead ask yourself
how you
you
make
others
feel Not only is is this an effective way to handle situations which may have traditionally made you
feel shy or insecure you’ll also experience an upsurge in positive sentiments from others
and a a sense of personal fulfillment 3 Let others
speak first Verbalize back to them what they’ve told you
to prove you
understand their position before giving your perspective The giving of the floor to someone else shows a generosity in in listening to them To be open-minded truly listen to to and attempt to to gain a a a a deep understanding of the perspective of others

why: Often people are driven by emotion not just facts If you
can can feel feel what they feel feel you
can can be more convincing and ultimately more helpful to the person you
are interacting with 5
made someone feel: Evaluate your day in in how uplifting you
you
were for others
Take as much satisfaction in how you
made others
feels as you
do in what you
personally accomplished The more encouragement you’ve provided the the more effective the the team will become “Generosity of spirit is an an intention and the desire to spread good will ” 6 We spend a lot of our time at work only to have ‘nothing left’ when we get home Take time to evaluate how well you’ve done with your family in addition to your accomplishments at work The source of giving is the desire to give of oneself whether it’s financially giving your time or simply focusing on how you
interact with others
I work on this every day and I hope you’ll join me and the the rest of the the Neudesic leadership team in our continued quest to improve the lives of our team Tim Marshall
