What does transversely sealed mean?

Did you know that all of L-com's new ruggedized RJ45 jam-nuts, flanges and in-line receptacles are transversely
sealed? As the name implies, this means that they are waterproof. The parts meet or exceed IP-68 rating with or
without dust covers or mated connectors engaged with the receptacle. The jacks are waterproof even without a
mated cap or connector when submerged under 1 meter of water for up to two days. Your equipment will not be
at risk from moisture or dust even if you lose or forget the dust cap.

Category 5e and Category 6 ruggedized family of RJ45 plugs and receptacles provide an efficient, comprehensive and affordable solution to
Ethernet connectivity for harsh and environmentally challenged applications. The jacks feature 100% transversely sealed (IP-68)
configurations as a standard product design, preventing dust, water and moisture penetration, with or without dust cap or plug engagement.
The ruggedized parts offer comprehensive shielding and grounding effectiveness capable of sustaining higher data transmission rates as well
as Electro-Magnetic Conductance (EMC) for Military applications (only Zinc-Nickel finished parts offer EMC grounding). Suggested areas of
usage include Data, VOIP, IPTV in harsh environments, 10/100/1000 Base-T networks, battlefield communication systems, industrial process
control, data acquisition and control, factory environments, radar systems, railways and shelters among other things.

L-com's ruggedized RJ45 plugs are designed to integrate with other ruggedized jam-nuts, flange mounts and in-line receptacles. Special
compressive fittings allow these plugs to work with shielded or unshielded cable. A compression nut establishes 10lb of cable strain relief
establishing robust cable strength. Internal conductive compression is used to interoperate with the cable braid to form a 360° ground plane.
