health. The doctor had mention that I had a pigment (freckle) in one eye, but that it was
nothing to worry about and she’d keep an eye on it. There was no concern in her voice
on her part so I felt all was fine. However, she did say, "Yep, you need reader
glasses!" At that point, I felt my suspicions were right. I was just getting older... and so
were my eyes. The doctor gave me my eye prescription and I was on my way.
The next day, I ordered some glasses, which came in about 2 weeks. I was so
excited! I hadn’t been able to read my books or work on my computer. I quickly tried
them on as soon as they came. The reading vision was better, I could work on
the computer, I could read my books... but something still felt off.
Keeping my left eye shut, I looked at Jay’s face again, which was about 6 feet
away. His face was shadowed and still a bit distorted. His head also
seemed slightly shrunk when comparing it to when both eyes were
opened. There seemed to be a very light gray shadow over the lower left
quadrant of my vision. Something was still wrong and it wasn't my reading
vision. Jay said again, “Teri, thats not normal! Make another appointment,
but go to Kaiser Hospital.”
One of my great attributes is my toughness. I’m the kind of person who thinks,
if it’s not falling off, I’m fine or that I can tough it out. It's a great quality in life,
but when it comes to your health, it can be very dangerous. This is one time,
I'd realize that.
I'd also been going through pre-menopause and I’d been dealing with MAJOR
hormonal changes since around August of 2015. So, I just kept thinking
(praying)… I’m just getting older, I'm fine, this is what happens with
age. Again… "denial" another trait that's not good when it comes to your
health.
I was starting to get a bit scared. Jay had a medical back round, he'd been a
chiropractor for many years, so when it came to health matters I'd always
listen. Well... I'd listen and try to do what he said. I was just so afraid of going
to the doctor, ever since I was a little girl. So, I did the next best thing, so I
thought.
Instead, I made another appointment with a different Costco location to have
my eyes looked at again. I tried to tell the new Costco Optometrist about the
gray shadow I was seeing and the distorted vision, but he didn’t seem to be
interested. He rushed through the evaluation and sent me on my way with
another eye prescription for glasses and contact lens.
