St. John’s was founded in 1858 as a mission of St. Joseph’s, and its rst pastor was Father Michael Creedon, who was pastor at St. Joseph’s at the time. Parishioners worshipped in a schoolhouse that had been remodeled into a church. In 1900 the parish built a new church, which was dedicated by Bishop Bernard J. McQuaid.
