St. Ann
Twenty miles to Rexville’s north, in the city of Hornell, St. Ann’s Church stands tall on Erie Avenue. It has been located there since 1869, when Bishop Ryan performed its dedication. The parish got its start in 1849 with the opening of its rst church at the corner of Cass and Buffalo streets under Father Michael O’Brien, founding pastor. Another 19th-century St. Ann’s pastor, Father James M. Early, served as the founder of St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell in 1890.
In 2004, St. Ann’s and St. Mary’s joined the newly created Our Lady of the Valley Parish along with the former St. Joachim in Canisteo and St. Ignatius Loyola in Hornell.
