It could be said that Hamlin’s St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish has a “rock-solid” past.

That’s because rocks have been used as building materials and inspiration throughout the rural
church’s history.
The parish was formed on Feb. 10, 1982, to help serve the increasing numbers of Catholics in Brockport, Hilton and Kendall. Father William J. Amann was named the parish’s rst pastor and celebrated the rst Mass on Ash Wednesday in 1982 in a barn owned by the Pogroszewski family. After the barn, Masses were celebrated in an old train depot.
In 1983, the parish purchased 15 acres of land at 3747 Brick Schoolhouse Road. Parishioners designed a worship facility and launched a fund drive for the
church building. Construction began in June 1987. The rst Mass was celebrated in a rainstorm at the site that September on the occasion of “The Rock Party,” when more than 20 parishioners brought to the site more than 200 tons of stones and rocks. The sanctuary wall made from parishioners’ stones became the symbol of the spirit that characterized the parish.
Bishop Matthew H. Clark blessed the church on Oct. 14, 1989, and it was dedicated on Aug. 9, 1992. The eucharistic chapel, used for daily Mass, also was completed in 1992. A baptismal font, also made from stones brought by parishioners, was nished in time for the Easter Vigil in 1996.
