:St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish was formed in 2009 when St. Mary’s of the Lake Church in Ontario merged with Church of the Epiphany in Sodus and St. Rose of Lima in Sodus Point.

Mmary of the Lake was established in 1869 as a mission of Holy Trinity in Webster, and the rst church – a small, white building – was erected in 1879. In 1915 Father Michael Kreig became the parish’s rst resident pastor. Construction of a modern brick church began in 1965, and the church was dedicated by Bishop James E. Kearney in 1966. By 1916 or 1917, Catholics in Sodus were gathering above a local market for weekly Mass, and in 1922 Father Charles Shay became Church of the Epiphany’s founding pastor. Construction of the church soon began, and the completed church was dedicated in 1924. The Great Depression soon hit, and in 1934 Epiphany ceased to have a resident pastor and became a mission of St. Mary of the Lake until 1942, when it again became an independent
parish with its own pastor.
