and operating as a private institution but with a close working relationship with the Diocese of Rochester – relocated to the campus of Colgate Rochester Divinity School. In 1989, the institute opened an extension in the Diocese of Albany to develop lay ministers for that diocese as well.
In 2002 the school’s name was changed to St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry. The following year it moved to a brand-new, 17,000-square-foot facility at 120 French Road in Pittsford, adjacent to Nazareth College and the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse.
Currently, St. Bernard’s offers master’s degrees in theological studies, pastoral studies and divinity. Also available is a non-degree certi cation program, begun in 1992, offering three courses of study chie y for prospective lay parish ministers: basic theological study, parish business management and catechetical leadership. A comparable program, the Instituto Pastoral Hispano, is available for members of the Hispanic community.
A mover goes to retrieve more boxes in August 2003 as St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry moved into its new building on French Road in Pittsford.
