cHurcH of tHe tranSfiguration
On the feast of the Trans guration on Aug. 6, 1983,
Church of the Trans guration celebrated its inaugural Mass in an old barn at the corner of Stone Road and Clover Street in Pittsford.
Father Gerald Appelby, who held a diocesan position in campus ministry at the time, was assigned as pastor of the new parish, and he celebrated the parish’s rst Christmas Mass
in the barn.
When the weather grew too cold for wor- shipping in a barn, Masses temporarily were relocated to a movie theater at Eastview Mall in Victor and to Christ Clarion Presbyterian Church in Pittsford.
A permanent location was obtained on West Bloom eld Road in Pittsford, and the rst Church of the Trans guration was erected in 1984. The worship space was of cially dedicated on May 5, 1985.
As the community continued to grow, the decision was made to break ground for a new church. On Dec. 19, 1992, Bishop Matthew H. Clark and Father Appelby dedicated the parish’s current worship space at 50 W. Bloom eld Road. A Parish Life Center was added in 1999.
