Formed in 2002, the Good Shepherd Catholic Community comprises
St. Patrick Church in Aurora, St. Michael Church in Union Springs,
Our Lady of the Lake Church in King Ferry and St. Patrick Church in Moravia.
The rst known Catholic Mass was celebrated in Aurora in 1841. In 1851 Father William Quigley became pastor of the edgling parish, and in 1872 ground was broken for St. Patrick Church. Bishop Bernard J. McQuaid dedicated the church
in 1874.
In 1851 St. Michael was established in Union Springs, known then as Springport. Parishioners constructed a frame church that year and worshipped in it until 1974, when the parish purchased a stone building that previously had been an Episcopal church. In 1975 Bishop Joseph L. Hogan and Bishop Ned Cole of the Episcopal Diocese of Central New York presided over a ceremony of renewal in the church.
