          The Virginia State Conference
NAACP held its annual Lobby Day at
the Virginia General Assembly on Jan.
       16. Branches from Charlottesville,
       Chesterfield, Fairfax, Goochland,
       Henrico, Prince William, Stafford,
       and Richmond joined state conference
       president Kevin Chandler in lobbying
       delegates and senators on issues
       relevant to the NAACP.
             Targeting bills that would
       increase the grand larceny threshold,
       no-excuse absentee voting, and
       automatic voter registration, the civil
       rights organization was also briefed
by several lawmakers on their own
       bills.
             After attending the House of
Delegates' honoring of the late civil
rights icon Nannie B. Hairston, the
group closed their day with a press
       conference where they vowed to
return on cross-over day to assess
       their efforts. *
