WINS WIND FARM GRANT
Llandudno Oval Crown Green Bowling Club was delighted to be awarded a substantial grant from the Gwynt y Môr Wind Farm Community Fund, administered by Community Voluntary Support Conwy (CVSC).
The Club received over £19,000 to cover the cost in full of the installation of a new automatic watering system for its Bowling Green. The project installation has just been completed in the last few weeks.
The Club’s Secretary, Mark Capsey said:“The grant award will make a tremendous difference to the Club. Previously
watering the Green, relied on volunteers manually shifting around antiquated equipment over a period of hours. The process was inefficient, time consuming and wasteful of water.
“The new automatic system will be more sustainable, allowing the Green to be watered at night, and ensuring even and effective water distribution. Operatives will be fully able to take account of weather conditions and forecasts when managing the watering cycle. There will be a considerable time saving for volunteers, whose commitment and effort are one of our most valuable resources.”
Mr Capsey praised the work of the CVSC in administering several local community orientated funds. He also said, “While Gwynt y Môr Wind Farm generates important carbon free energy for the nation’s benefit, its operator RWE is ensuring that at the same time various organisations in the neighbouring communities are also deriving positive benefits. We would like to thank them for their valuable support.”
Mr Capsey went on to say that the Club expected to see a continued significant improvement in the standard of their Bowling Green this coming season.
Historically Llandudno Oval has been one of the finest Greens in North Wales. The Club is currently pursuing several development projects to enhance the Club’s facilities and reputation. Recently the Club installed a new LED flood lighting system, upgraded with the support of a Sport Wales, National Lottery grant. During the closed season, an innovative laser scanning survey of the Green was conducted by local company Angle Surveys. The impressive topographic mapping results will now provide the Green Team with valuable information for optimising maintenance practices.
