1:00 PM, with a quick clean up and cone collection.
We had some new participants and I was visiting with a wife of one. He was having a hard time seeing the course and
got a DNF on his first run. It was something about not wanting to have to ask for guidance (okay, it’s a

guy thing). Kind of weird, but on my way there that morning, I was listening to John Mellencamp and
the song phrase was: “Forget all about that macho- s..t, and learn how to play guitar”. Take out “play guitar” and replace it with “drive your Porsche”. We encouraged him to use one of our instructors (David
Stadtmueller, Jeff Hallam or Mike Rehak) and he took the plunge. In lieu of frustration, he learned and I’m
not sure I’ve ever seen a brighter smile setting their first timed lap, and his wife was ecstatic as well. Oh, he’ll
be back! In fact, I think all three instructors were busy all day taking some along with them or riding with them. What great
The next events are already scheduled at this same facility. The next one falls on my grandson’s first birthday party
and I’m still going to the Autocross first. So get on line, get registered, pay (it’s the best $30 you will ever spend) and have a great time. Now, if I can just get David’s
talent to rub off on me. I think he perhaps teaches us all how to drive a certain way, so he can control the talent against him. Times got faster and the fun-spirited
competition laughs were flowing - great camaraderie!
Finally, a huge thanks to MCCC for allowing us and they may have a policy whereby one of
their own instructors must be on site during the event. He minded his own business,
but I figured he was there to monitor the activity and make sure the event was run as
outlined. Needless to say, I think we passed with flying colors and he had a blast giving the course a go, even though he didn’t even try to make the Chicago Boxes. He was very appreciative.
The only person we all noted was suspiciously missing; the Editor In Chief himself. Don’t worry, Stan, we gossiped about you enough to where I’m sure
your ears were burning.
Sure hope to see you all there!!
