TELL THE STORY ZONE 10 REP ROAD TRIP VISITING THE GREAT PLAINS REGION’S DE Iwear a lot of hats for the Kansas City Region PCA. I still hold the positions of Newsletter Editor, Past President, and till we find someone, Social Media Chair. And since the beginning of this year, I have been the Zone 10 Representative for PCA National. The largest part of my duties as Zone 10 Rep is visiting other regions within the zone. Zone 10 is big. It stretches from Kansas and Missouri north to include Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, and the Canadian province of Manitoba. The year started with my calendar almost full of regional events to attend. COVID-19 put a halt to that. Now as things slowly open up, I had the opportunity to attend my first out-of-state event. I made it up to the Great Plains Region’s DE at Race Park of the Midwest, a.k.a. RPM, just south of Omaha. It was very well attended. They were expecting 25 to 30, but ended up with almost 50 drivers. Due to COVID, the event was closed to the public. Only registered attendees were allowed at the event and on the track. Social distancing was practiced, as was mask wearing, and sanitation stations were available. The best part of the trip for me was my copilot, McKenna. McKenna is my oldest daughter at 15 years of age. She has been to a DE at Heartland Park and enjoyed parade laps there. She was looking forward to doing some parade laps at RPM. Our two and a half hour drive north to RPM started casually on Friday morning with a full tank of 93 octane for the car and a venti caramel latte for McKenna. I navigated while McKenna was in charge of the tunes. Navigation was easy. Just take I-29 north. Being the DJ required a large playlist and a lot of “oh wait, this is my favorite.” Friday night included dinner and a sunset drive, lost somewhere in EDITOR IN-CHIEF STAN THORNE 11 12 Der Sportwagen YEARS
