 TELL THE STORY
MAKING MEMORIES
JUST SMILE AND REMEMBER THE MOMENT
Most of you know I picked up a base ‘99 black Boxster last year. It epitomizes the truth that driving
a slow car fast is more fun than driving a fast car slow. Many fun memories have already been logged on the odometer.
One of my more favorite ones was when McKenna and I drove the Boxster to the Great Plains DE in Iowa. It was my first official Zone 10 Rep event in the Region. The DE was fun, the cars were cool, the people were graciously friendly, but my favorite part came after dinner on Saturday night. McKenna and
I got semi dressed up to go to a
nice Italian restaurant. Dinner was excellent and she was fun to talk with. She is definitely a young lady. Where has the time gone?
On the way back to the hotel, McKenna asked, “Are we just going back.” I said, “Yes, but we don’t
have to.” She said she wanted to go for a drive. That was all I needed to hear. I put the top down and off we went.
A few lefts and rights later and
we were headed far out into the rolling hills of Iowa. Cresting each hill gave us endless views of the countryside. How can you measure miles when there is an endless sea of rich farmland in front of you? You don’t. You smile and remember the moment. Beautiful memories of moments are all we really have to measure life by.
Occasionally we would encounter the desolate intersection. I would ask, “Left, or right?” McKenna would randomly guide us through the cornfields, split by our lonely highway. She picked songs as the miles passed, singing along with each of them. Her hair waived in golden strands, filtering the late afternoon sunlight.
