ICE CREAM SOCIAL
COOLING OFF
I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM, WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM!
 SOCIAL CHAIR
Everyone seems to like ice cream. Judging from last year’s turnout to our ice cream social, we knew we needed to do it again in 2022. We just needed a venue change.
Last year’s ice cream social was a big hit. There were lots of members, lots of cars, lots of ice cream and, unfortunately, LOTS of heat. We had our ice cream social in a public park with plenty of shade, but it was still hard to beat the heat.
For 2022, we changed locations to Cedar Creek, a large subdivision in western Olathe. The Thornes, Stan and Deborah, reserved the area’s clubhouse for us. We were very glad they did. The temperature that day was nearly 100 degrees!
While the social team of Jim
and Maja Cummings, Stan and Deborah Thorne, and myself and Fred Quintana were setting up the ice cream and topping stations, Mike Rehak was leading that day’s driving tour. Mike started the group in the Olathe area. Over 20 cars began to
crisscross the back roads of Kansas.
Mike said he drove the route the day before with no issues. It is a best practices recommendation from PCA National for all Driving Chairs to drive the route one or two times before the day of the drive. You never know when a road will be closed, be repaved, or on today’s drive, an important exit was closed. Mike knew the area well and was able to bring the string of Porsches to the final destination without losing anyone.

and into the parking lot, showing everyone where to park. The parking lot was quickly filled up and overflow drivers were directed to park along the street.
Meanwhile the ice cream team of Deborah, Maja, and myself were inside getting the spread ready. A
