pour out your heart before the Lord.
When we go through the Psalms, I hope God is going to teach us how to
sing our prayers. I do not mean that you have to put a melody to it, but
there should always be a sense of joy in our prayers.
The prayers in Psalms are all short. They are all short and pointed and
direct and, best of all, they are inspired because they are in the Bible.
That is how I know they are inspired. I love the fact that the prayers in
Psalms are inspired. Because I do not know how you are, but I gain
boldness by praying in the very words of Scripture. By using God’s
words, I feel braver. I feel more bold that I can come before God.
To be honest with you, I have a hard time when someone asks me to pray
about something specifically. I do not know how to deal with that. I
always keep my word. If I say to you I am going to pray about that, I
will pray. One way I keep my word is to pray even while I am talking to
you. In my heart I am praying right there. I pray when they ask me so I
do not forget. I want to keep my word.
But sometimes, someone would say: Pray that I get such and such a job.
Or, would you pray for my friend who has cancer and pray that God will
heal? Or someone says, I am trying to sell my house. Pray that my
house will sell. Or that my car will start. Or something like that. I do
not know how to pray when someone asks me something like that
because God might want you unemployed. God might want you
homeless. He might need you in a financial strait. He might want you
sick. He might not want you to walk. He might think it’s better that
your dog dies. I do not know how to pray when someone asks me to
pray those things. It puts me in the position of assuming that I know
God’s perfect wisdom and plan according to my understanding.
Proverbs 3:5 admonishes us,
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own
understanding.”
It reminds me of the three Hebrew boys who said in perfect faith:
“Our God can surely deliver us, but if He chooses not to we will still
not bow down to idols”
So I have a set of prayers that I call Master Key Prayers. In other
words, it is sort of like I can always pray John 17:28,
