                14 | PERFORMING ARTS DRAMA
DRAMA
Drama and performance continued to go from strength to strength and though the Seniors play, Summer Holiday, could not take place due to the pandemic, there was still much to be enjoyed and celebrated this year.
Seussical – “Oh the thinks you can think!” The Year 5 and Year 6 production
this year was the crazy and unpredictable Seussical Jr. A mighty challenge for all those involved, but one that was met by each of the performers from a ‘Who’ to the principle characters of JoJo and his feathery birds. Every performer sang and danced at levels way beyond their years and the production was much appreciated by fellow pupils, parents and friends and our guests from primary schools for our ‘relaxed’ performance.
Bull in a China Shop – The Drama Masterclass performed brilliantly in this highly amusing comedy by American playwright, C B Gilford portraying a houseful of sweet little old ladies who discover that a handsome bachelor, a detective, lives across the street. To attract his attention, they carry out a genteel homicide with a cup of tea as the murder weapon. The audience was in stitches.
One parent said,“I was so impressed by the talent and enthusiasm of the cast and their dedication to the long rehearsals involved, not to mention their excellent American accents!”
Nativities Galore –There were an awful lot of kings and shepherds, stars, angels, donkeys and sheep wandering around the school in December as the nativities in each year group from Nursery toYear 4 became the main focus of attention for a few weeks. From I Spy Christmas in the Nursery to Lights, Camel, Action 2,The Sequin in the Junior years the audiences witnessed beautiful, strong singing and dancing to toe-tapping tunes; confident acting and fabulous costumes, hair and make-up. Special thanks to the Year 7 Drama scholars who narrated the Nursery’s nativity so brilliantly.
LAMDA – This year saw nearly100 children studying for exams ranging from the Introductory stages in Years 2 and 3 to the dizzy heights of Grade 6, which is equivalent to the first year of A levels! Sadly, our summer exams could not take place, of course, but, in December, 84 pupils took exams, all gaining either Merit or Distinction.Well done all.
